To Tim and Katie who have been selected to represent Wales at the 3 day Inter Regional MTB Competition that will be held at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow in late July. This a first time for Tim and Katie’s second opportunity to represent the club and Wales at this event.
Both Tim and Katie started their racing with the Go Race Series that Mike Tong runs. It has been a great introduction to racing for them both. More recently with the help and guidance from Welsh Cycling they have both been working hard to move onto the next level of racing at British and Welsh National events at which they are both doing well. Not forgetting all the help they get from Steeve Beech @wheelism.
So once again Congratulations from all of the club and our Club Sponsor Beics Brenin.

The racing starts at 18.00 for the youngest with the older teens & adults off at 19.20. Enter on the day, suitable for most bikes & round the night off with a trip cross the road for a McDonalds.
Friday’s – 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th June at Blaendolau Playing Fields, Aberystwyth SY23 3SR
Hafren CC are again running their ‘freewheel’ Grass Track series near The Flash Centre, Welshpool. Again there are events suitable for all ages & abilities. Any bike with a freewheel can be used & there were several track inspired events for each age group with a series prize for each group. Last year was really good fun with mountain bikers, roadies & track riders all having a go.
Provisional dates are Friday’s – 24th June, 1st & 8th July – details to follow – choice of the new KFC or McDonalds in Newtown to finish off the night in the traditional way for those of us that pass that way of course.
Saturday saw the North Wales Go Racers at Allyn Waters, Wrexham where on a very wet day ……. there was some exciting racing

U8 Boys Rupert 6th and Twm 13th
Sunday was Round 2 of the Scott Marathon series at Rhayader with a choice of 3 distances for the 600 plus starters. The kids loved the neutralised car led Tour de France style start through Rhayader town. All of our members opted for the 25k route, Tim was 1st back overall in 1:10, Katie was 3rd overall & 1st lady in 1:23, Mike was 1st supervet in 1:53 & Andy 2nd supervet in 2:10. Anyone thinking of next year can have a preview ride round as much of the route is in the writers local woods.
Our two new Welsh Champions traveled North this weekend to Dalby for round 3 of the MTB XC series.
The world cup course is challenging but with good flow and gave exciting enjoyable racing.
In the juvenile boys race start Tim pulled a foot out and almost lost his shoe loosing a number of places meant a long fightback to take another second place. 1-06 down to Freddy Birchill and 30 secs on third place Jamie Johnston.
Katie with two fingers taped together following a practice crash on Saturday came home in 10th place 8-22 down on the flying Hattie Harndon Ty-mo Racing.
Both Tim and Katie rode well despite the mishaps during the race and the injuries before they both showed great determination to start and to complete the race and represented the club well.
Mike had an enjoyable close fought race to finish 5th in the Fun Man category.
Back closer to home Cerys had a well earned 3rd place in the circuit racing at Sundorne.
Picture of the some of the North Wales Crew warming up at a rather cool Dalby. Not sure what they listen to on the headphones but they seem to be concentrating on it. (Thanks for the picture Elize)
Commanding rides gave two of the Dragons Welsh Championship Jerseys at Fforest Fields on Sunday 8th May.2016.
The very demanding course at Fforest Fields became really greasy after very heavy overnight rain. Leading to cuts in the number of laps to be raced for all except the Juvenile and Youth riders who had to ride the full amount and it saw a number of fancied riders deciding not to compete in the older age groups.
Tim has his usual fast start leading from the first corner to extend his lead on each lap to take his second Welsh Championship Jersey. Katie starting from the back of the ladies grid moved through the field to a commanding lead and taking her first Championship Jersey in the Youth Girls.
Lowrie continued to shine with a second in the U8 girls.
Our second claim members also had success with Griff 1st in U12 boys, Lois 2nd U10 girls, Tomos 3rd U8 boys and Megan 4th U12 girls.
With no Super Vet Category this year Mike was in the Grand Vets race finishing 8th (2nd Super Vet).
(He says he knows his place as when racing he heard a few shouts of “Come on Katie’s Grand Dad not come on Mike.)
Well done everyone the club is really proud of you all
Thanks to The Bulls for the event and to Debs and Sammy for the encouragement from the timing tent.
Two of the Dragons made the long trek down to Newnham Park Plymouth for round 2 on the National XC series. On a very demanding course with 3 very steep climbs and some 8 A Lines most of which were not rollable and B Lines which were short but were more like normal A’s saw all of the riders challenged.
In the juvenile boys Tim led over the bridge from the start arena and onto the first climb. Freddy Birchill , Certini took the win his second of the series with Tim having him in sight on the finishing straight for an excellent second place. Katie rode well to 11th place in the youth girl’s race where local to the course riders all showed well and Hattie Harndon took her second series win.
Current positions in the series are Tim is joint second in the series and second in the British National rankings and Katie is 9th in the series and 7th in the British National rankings.
Meanwhile back in Wales the NWMTB Go – Race series got underway at Padarn Country Park Llanberis.
Dragons with a clean sweep on the Under 6 Girls Podium.
Round 1 of the series at Padarn Country Park saw over 60 riders compete in the racing and skills tests. The Dragons had a really good week-end with our young and new members all doing well.
Lowrie continued her winning ways with a 1st in the U6 Girls, Martha was 2nd and Polly 3rd. Gruff took 2nd in the U6 Boys with Osion’s position unconfirmed at the time of writing. Gwenno had 2nd in the U8 Girls with, Tomos 1st in the U8 Boys, Rupert 8th and Twm 10th. In the U10 Boys Owen finished in 4th.
Excellent results everyone.
With Saturday’s snow rapidly clearing into bright sunshine there were ideal conditions fo Cycle-Tecs R2 at the Royal Welsh Showground. The course had a testing mix of woodland single track, steep descents, rock gardens and tarmac climbs.
6 year old Lowrie again rode impressively and despite having a mechanical still managed to take 3rd in the Under 8 Girls.
In the Ladies race Katie led the two James sisters up to the woodland single track and held on well to take 2nd Youth Girl and was 3rd lady overall.
Tim led the juvenile boys into the woods and increased his lead on each lap to take a very well-deserved first place.
Well done Guys
