After months of preparation by the Dragon’s and Dyffryn Conwy at last it was the week-end for us to host Round 3 of the WMBS and the Welsh XC Championships at Coed y Brenin . The rain eased off during Saturday as the arena and course was set up but it was wet enough to ensure a super slippery race on Sunday.
Race day dawned dry and warm and we saw some exciting racing with the Dragons showing well in the Under 8 and youth classes. All the hard training paid off with Owen 5th in the Under 10 boys and Peter 7th in the Youth boys. The club had podium positions Hannah had 3rd place in the Under 8 girls, Tim was 2nd and Luke 3rd in the Juvenile boys and Katie was 2nd in the Youth girls class. In the afternoon race Mike was 2nd in the Super Vets.
Big thanks are due to all our sponsors, marshals, helpers, Strata Medical, Army Cadets, Welsh Cycling, NRW, the guys for the timing and the commentary and the trade stands and of course to all the riders, helpers and spectators we needed you all to make it the successful week-end that it was.

Dyfi Enduro Junior Event, 2nd May 2015, Machynlleth
By 10am on Saturday 2nd May the course was set ready for the Junior Dyfi Enduro Event. The event has been running for the last 3 years. The aim of the event is to allow young people from the local area, children of organisers and competitors to practice their racing skills against the clock, themselves and each other.
The event takes place in a small wooded area next to the rugby club in the town.
The competition allows for practice sessions between regular timed laps, there is no charge for the event with the levies due being picked up by the organisers of the adults event.
The weather this year was very cold and wet but that didn’t deter the young racers. The completion was hot with entries in nearly every category.
There were 10 hotly contested categories this year with 36 young riders competing for a position on the leader board the youngest competitor being just 4 years old.
The event is organised by Nichole Taylor of Dreigiau Coed-y-Brenin Dragons with the help of Mike Tong representing Welsh Cycling and the support of Dyfi MTB events.
The fastest lap recorded for the day was 29.5 seconds by number 342 well done Gruff.
I really enjoy this event the young people are always so dedicated and helpful to each other, with more experienced competitors helping the less experienced. There is always a great deal of discussion on line choice and how to shave off the 10ths of a second that split the field. There are very few sports with such healthy competitive attitudes.
Thank you to all those that helped and took part.
