Round One, Coed y Brenin, 28th April 2012
Dreigiau Coed y Brenin Dragons hosted the first round of the “Go-Race MTB North Wales” series at Coed y Brenin on 28th April. An exciting circuit based on that used in March for the “Go-Race Plus” event had been marked out on Friday evening by club members Iain, Ant, Nikki, Gwynfor and Mike Tong from Welsh Cycling, ably assisted by young members Gethin, Peter, Ezra and Thomas. The finishing touches were made on Saturday morning while the race HQ was set up and competitors were signing on, and practice was soon on full swing.
Racing commenced at 10:30 and with 55 entrants distributed across all age categories each age category had a separate race, making an excellent start to the series. The usual time trial followed, with slightly fewer competitors as some had other commitments in the afternoon, including Joe Harrison who was entered in the UK Gravity Enduro series race the next day.
Dates and venues of future rounds of the series are on the Racing page.
Mountain Bike Racing takes different forms. The most common are Cross Country MTB Races, Down Hill MTB Races and “Four Cross” which might best be described as short course downhill racing. Take a look at the racing page for more information about the different types of mountain bike racing, and forthcoming races.
