We would like to congratulate Dragons rider Katie who has been selected to represent Wales racing in the Inter Regional Championships in September at Hadleigh Park, Essex. A huge achievement and we wish her every success.
The last round of the WMBS XC took place at Nant yr Arian on Sunday 12th July 2015 in damp conditions on an extremely challenging course (with some really steep climbs that even had top riders pushing up).
Katie rode impressively to 1st in the U16 Girls which with Megan not entering R4 also gave Katie 1st in the overall series. In the U14 Boys Luke and Tim were only 1 point apart in the series so a close race was anticipated. Tim had an excellent start and led on lap 1 with Luke closing in on him when an ongoing mechanical issue slowed Tim down and Luke took 2nd and Tim 3rd on the day and this gave Luke 2nd and Tim 3rd in the overall series.
The weather was warmer for us older slower guys after dinner with Mike finishing 3rd in the Super Vets on a very cut up course.
Well done everyone.
Commitments elsewhere saw some of our regular “Go Racer’s” missing for the Go Race on Sunday. The rain stayed away for the kid’s races but it was the usual Tree Tops weather for the adults heavy rain.
In the juvenille boys Tim took first from DC Scott . Lowrie was 2nd in the U6 girls and in the U6 boys Rupert was 4th and had an excellent 1st in the skills session (Those skills sessions on a Wednesday are paying off) The adults race saw Ben in his first race for the club claim 2nd place well done all.
All the club members would like to say WELL DONE Elize our new BC Level 1 Coach.
This is the way to get tired with the last of the WWCR CX at Aber on Friday night then Go Race XC at Alyn Waters and then off to Llandegla to finish off to ride the Black routes and B line.
Friday evening saw Cerys as 3rd girl and 8th out of 16 in the year 5/6 race. Luke took 1st in the year 7/8 race to complete a hat trick for the series. Next up was year 9/10/11. Adult and brave kids race with 29 starters, Luke led the club members home with 12th place (2nd brave kid) close behind was Katie in 13th place overall and taking the year 9/10/11 and Ladies 1st place another hat trick over the series. Well done both of you. Mike came in 15th and Gaynor retired due to feeling unwell. WWR had put on an excellent series of races and we all enjoyed them very much.
Saturday we were at Alyn Waters on a very muggy morning for a Go Race event. Lowrie continued her winning ways with 1st in the U6 girls and Rupert moved up to 4th in the U6 boys race. Cerys moved up through the field to take 2nd girl in the U10’s. In the U14’s Tim took 1st from Luke and Katie held on well to the boys to finish 3rd overall and 1st under 16 girl.
After a quick lunch it was down the road to Llandegla for a club ride and we were joined by two of our regular guests Josie and Ryan the main group rode the Black and enjoyed the thrills of the B line. Meanwhile Elize went on a secret training ride around the Blue.
Well done everyone and I think we deserve and will all need a rest on Sunday.
Sorry due to the bad weather at Coed y Brenin we have decide to cancel all of tonights sessions.
Although thunderstorms were forecast the rain stayed away on a muggy Friday evening for Round 2 of WWCR CX at Aber. In year 5/6 Cerys came in 3rd. and the year 7/8 boys saw a close fought race with Luke 1st and Tim 2nd. The 9/10/11, Adult and Brave kids race saw the field increase from 21 to 38 this week. Katie again took 1st female and was 12th overall, Luke (brave kids) was 5th, Mike was 19th, Gaynor 26th in her first race in 2 years following injury, Elize 33rd in her first ever race (both were riding their mountain bikes)
Well done everyone another great night and the rain did hold off as well.
Well what a busy few days we had. Friday saw club members competing in Aber at West Wales Cycle Racing club’s Summer CX in very windy weather. In year 5/6 girls Cerys was 1st, in year 7/8 Luke was 1st and Tim 2nd. In the 9/10/11 & Adult race Katie was 1st female and 7th overall and Mike was 11th. With not much sleep we were at Llanberis on Saturday morning for R2 of the NW Go-Race series. The day got off to a brilliant start with Lowri taking 1st place in the under 6 girls in her first ever race well done Lowri. Rupert was 5th in the under 6 boys. Tim,Peter and Katie also took 1st’s in their classes and in the adult race Mike finished 7th. On Sunday Cerys was competing in a circuit race and came 4th. Well done to all our riders.
Speedy recovery to Peter who had a serious fall after the race.
Round 3 of the British Mountain Bike XC Series was at Fforest Fields on Sunday 17th May 2015 in dry conditions on a very testing course with a rooty A line drop off that was catching out large numbers of riders. An early 9.00 am start saw 3 of our riders away in a larger field than they normally compete. Luke rode strongly on the hills and despite a mechanical was 15th and Tim was 24th in the under 14 race. Katie who was in the under 16’s race moved up from her seeded position on the grid of 21st to finish the race in 14th place and provided us with an exciting sprint finish that had the large crowd cheering. Excellent results for all three.
Report by Mike Smith.
After months of preparation by the Dragon’s and Dyffryn Conwy at last it was the week-end for us to host Round 3 of the WMBS and the Welsh XC Championships at Coed y Brenin . The rain eased off during Saturday as the arena and course was set up but it was wet enough to ensure a super slippery race on Sunday.
Race day dawned dry and warm and we saw some exciting racing with the Dragons showing well in the Under 8 and youth classes. All the hard training paid off with Owen 5th in the Under 10 boys and Peter 7th in the Youth boys. The club had podium positions Hannah had 3rd place in the Under 8 girls, Tim was 2nd and Luke 3rd in the Juvenile boys and Katie was 2nd in the Youth girls class. In the afternoon race Mike was 2nd in the Super Vets.
Big thanks are due to all our sponsors, marshals, helpers, Strata Medical, Army Cadets, Welsh Cycling, NRW, the guys for the timing and the commentary and the trade stands and of course to all the riders, helpers and spectators we needed you all to make it the successful week-end that it was.
