The club runs coaching sessions once or twice a month at Coed y Brenin (and occasionally elsewhere), usually on the 1st and 3rd weekends of the month, between 9.00am until 1.00pm. The sessions are divided by age/ability into Mini Rippers (ages 3-6, learning to ride), Beginners (ages 6-10, working on core skills and short blue graded rides), Intermediates (ages 9-15, more advanced skills, longer blue/red graded rides), and Intermediate Led-rides (none-coached) led by club MTB Leader.
Advanced level rides take place some afternoons/evenings and are advertised separately to the core sessions. These rides are for ages 12-17, and focus on Enduro racing skills, with long rides on red/black graded trails)
The sessions are open to club members only and cost £3.29 (29p goes to the Spond app) but if you’d like to come along to try a free session before joining the club that’s fine – just fill in a consent form for each child, and drop the club secretary a line to let her know what date you’ll be coming along (to ensure there’s space). Mountain bikes should be in good working condition. Please let us know if you need a bike(s).
In order to join the club you’ll need to become a member of the club via the British Cycling membership page. The cost to join is currently £16 for a family membership – it doesn’t matter how many members are in your family!
Once your membership has been approved then you can join the sessions. Sessions need to be booked and to keep things nice and organised the club uses an app called Spond. Simply download the app here, request to join the club, and your riders will then be allocated to a suitable group. Invitations to the sessions are then sent via the app and you can confirm to reserve your place on a session.
All club events are subject to the weather and we reserve the right to cancel at any time. If we do need to cancel an event then we try our best to do so in good time. We use the MET Office weather forecasts for Coed y Brenin and British Cycling’s insurance guidelines to determine whether we’ll go ahead with a session. If the wind is gusting above 50mph, there’s heavy rain, and the (feels like) temperature is below freezing then it’s likely we’ll cancel a whole session. If the wind is gusting above 30mph and then temperature is below 5 degrees Centigrade then we might only cancel session for the younger riders.
All our coaches and leaders are British Cycling qualified, DBS checked, and have plenty of experience. Meet the Dreigiau team here.
